      Printworks Unsigned returns

UNDISCOVERED stars of Manchester have been auditioning to win the Printworks Unsigned competition, after the winner last year went on to compete in X Factor's Bootcamp.

Kevin McCauley's perfomance landed him a place in May's final

Last Saturday, groups, duo’s and solo artists auditioned for the chance to win a £400 cash prize as well as an exclusive session in a recording studio to produce their own EP.

Eight finalists have now been chosen to perform on May 16 in front of a live panel of judges.

Judges include the Sales and Marketing director of the Hard Rock café, Jack Barton, Phil Ireland of Breaking Waves and celebrity guest judge Archie Kelly from Pheonix Nights.

Last year’s winner, Babalola Ehidiamen, who was seen by millions on the hit TV talent show The X Factor, said: “I have been singing for seven years. Printworks Unsigned was fun, recording in the studio was a long day but definitely worth it.

“The X Factor was a top experience. It was nice to see what goes on behind the scenes and it was nice to meet all the judges, especially Mr Simon Cowell.”

"I still do gigs around the city and all over England, it's what I love to do."

The annual competition is open to all entries, no age restrictions apply and contestants can be from any city, not just Manchester.

The first round of hopefuls performed between 12-5pm.

Printwork goers were able to enjoy the music of the auditions as they passed through The Pump Yard area.

Fred Booth, The Printworks Centre Director, said: “The Printworks Unsigned is one of the highlights of the Manchester music scene, and offers budding artists a fantastic platform to showcase their talent.

“We were really happy with the turn out and there are some great contenders this year. We wish all singers and bands the best of luck.”

The top eight acts from the auditions have been uploaded to www.theprintworks.com where voters can have their say before the final.
