Salford City FC Christmas toy appeal

SALFORD FC have asked fans to bring their unwanted toys to Moor Lane for Saturday's home clash with Padiham in aid of Key103's Cash for Kids.

Cash for Kids is the official charity of Key 103 and Magic 1152 and seeks to help those children across the Greater Manchester area suffering from disabilities and who are disadvantaged.

As part of the charity, two of Key103's Breakfast show hosts, Mike and Chelsea, launched the Mission Christmas campaign in partnership with The Manchester Evening News, with the aim of raising £1 million worth of toys.

Now Salford - who play their football in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier First Division - have jumped on the bandwagon. They are hoping to use their final home fixture before Christmas to gain more support for the charity.

As many as 150.000 children in Manchester are living in poverty, and are not expecting a visit from Santa this year, while across Greater Manchester, the figure extends to more than 1 in 3 children.

Furthermore, according to statistics from End Child Poverty, Greater Manchester has the fourth-highest level of child poverty by local authority, with 39% of children in the city under such circumstances.

All the toys and gifts raised in the run up to Friday 19th December - when The Big Reveal will show how much has been raised - will help make this Christmas very special for those living in poverty.

Last year, the charity beat it's target to deliver over £1.3 million worth of gifts to over 32,000 children in Greater Manchester; and they are hoping for a similar, if not greater, impact this year.

The charity is looking for both new and unwrapped gifts suitable for babies, toddlers, children and teenagers aged 0-18 years.

Salford's home ground, Moor Lane, is just one of many drop-off points for people to donate to; while you can also choose to give cash through the Cash for Kids website, in-person or over the phone. For example, by texting KEY to 70070, you can donate £5.

Key103 have already hosted a number of events to boost the charity's outreach, including a Children's Christmas Disney Party at the Cresta Court Hotel in Altrincham - which took place on 30 November.
