VIDEO: Crowds gather at Salford Quays for CBeebies pre-Christmas event

HUNDREDS of families gathered at Salford Quays at the weekend for their chance to board the ‘CBeebies Jolly Roger’ in preparation for their Christmas Show, Peter Pan.

BBC Learning who organised the two day event on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th October docked a Liverpool Tall Ship, The Glaciere, on the Quays.

Built in 1899, the ship, dubbed the ‘CBeebies Jolly Roger’ invited children and their families on board for storytelling in the cabin and an interactive shows on the deck where ‘pirates’ from Captain Hook’s ship prepared to set sail.

The sessions on board, run by the Book Trust Storytellers told tales of pirates, mermaids and adventures under the sea, as well as exerts from Peter Pan.

Families were also given tours of the deck where children turned the wheel, rang the bell, and learnt more about the history of the boat (which is one of the oldest tall ships in the world).

Prior to the event, Moray London, BBC Learning Executive Producer, said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming families from Friday onwards at Salford Dock where we’ll have a whole host of great fun activities for the CBeebies age group. It’s also a chance to see some of your CBeebies stars close-up and the best bit is - it’s all free.”
